Adopts hardware Channel Activity Detection (wired into
RadioLibWrapper::isChannelActive() alongside our RSSI-threshold check
and RX duty-cycle power-save), MCU temperature telemetry, LR2021
standby workaround, DISPLAY_SCALE/FLIP overrides, NRF52Board
shutdownPeripherals() refactor, and misc upstream fixes.
Declines upstream's ConfigSerializer-based NodePrefs rewrite,
MultiSerialInterface/interface_manager, and UIColor palette system —
each would have broken large parts of the Solo-specific feature set
(NodePrefs fields, per-variant single serial_interface, enum-based
DisplayDriver::Color). Flagged as candidate follow-up migrations, not
permanent no's.
Also fixes several pre-existing bugs surfaced while chasing silent
merge breaks (stale newMsg() override signature in ui-tiny/ui-orig,
dead UIEventType::newContactMessage case, missing ContactsIterator
init), bumps FIRMWARE_VERSION/MESHCORE_VERSION to 1.17, and fixes a
missing <cstdlib> include that broke the native ConfigSerializer unit
tests.
Verified via 13+ pio run builds across ESP32/nRF52, all 3 companion UI
variants, and 7 display drivers, plus the full native unit test suite
(33/33 passing).

Port the Wio Tracker L1 solo firmware (full on-device UI, dual BLE/USB
companion transport) to Heltec V3 and V4 OLED boards. Neither board has
a joystick or CardKB on-board, so each new env wires up both as optional
peripherals with default pins from what the board leaves free, gated
behind the existing UI_HAS_JOYSTICK/ENV_PIN_SDA+SCL flags.
DUAL_SERIAL was nRF52-only; added an ESP32 helpers/esp32/DualSerialInterface.h
counterpart so the flag isn't silently ignored on these boards. On V4's
native USB CDC, isClientConnected() also honours (bool)Serial (real DTR),
same as the nRF52 version; V3 has no native CDC so it stays BLE-only there.
Screen (SDA 17/SCL 18) and CardKB (SDA 3/SCL 4) confirmed working on real
V4 hardware.

Framework for upcoming variant-specific PRs that add LED feedback during boot. The hook gives users visual cues that the device is busy and
shouldn't be interacted with until startup completes.
BLE takes priority when connected; USB is always ready as fallback.
Both state machines run continuously — no BLE disconnect on USB connect.

Loading... screen was always shown at full brightness because prefs
are not yet loaded at that point. Apply setBrightness() in the first
common code path after the_mesh.begin() loads prefs, so at least the
tail of the loading screen and the entire splash screen respect the
saved brightness level.

Watchdog: nRF52840 hardware WDT with 30s timeout, runs during sleep.
Resets device if main loop stalls for >30s. Pets in every loop()
iteration so normal operation never triggers it.
QuickMsgScreen: new UI screen accessible from home screen pages.
Two-phase UI: contact picker (shows all contacts with hop count),
then predefined message picker (location, I'm OK, need help, on my
way, ETA 10min, ETA 30min). Location message uses live GPS fix if
available. Sends via the_mesh.sendMessage() and shows sent/error alert.

Save last known unix timestamp to /rtc_save on shutdown and restore it
on startup, so the clock shows correct time immediately after restart
without waiting for GPS fix.

- CPU sleep: board.sleep(0) in main loop puts NRF52 into WFE/sd_app_evt_wait
between iterations; wakes on any interrupt (radio, BLE, timer). Largest
power saving of the three changes.
- VBAT_ENABLE gating: voltage divider now powered only during ADC read
(HIGH for 10ms, then LOW). Previously stayed HIGH continuously.
Fixed in both variant.cpp (init) and WioTrackerL1Board::getBattMilliVolts().
- LED off with display: PIN_LED is cleared when auto-off triggers and
restored (handed back to userLedHandler) when display wakes. Avoids
idle LED current draw during screen-off periods.

- Remove extra blank line in companion_radio main.cpp before NRF52/STM32 block
- Revert unintended STM32_PLATFORM ETHERNET_ENABLED branch (no STM32 ethernet target exists, and it incorrectly included nrf52 headers)
- Drop renovate annotations from rak4631 platformio.ini (no renovate config in this repo)
The companion_radio example was not restoring the GPS enabled/disabled
preference from flash after reboot. The preference was being saved
correctly when toggled via the mobile app, but on boot,
sensors.begin() -> initBasicGPS() unconditionally sets gps_active=false
and nothing subsequently restored the persisted state.
Added applyGpsPrefs() (matching the pattern in simple_repeater,
simple_sensor, and simple_room_server) and call it from main.cpp
after sensors.begin() to ensure the GPS hardware is initialized
before the saved preference is applied.
The Ethernet retry loop in repeater and room server checked
hardwareStatus() and linkStatus() before calling Ethernet.begin(),
which always returned EthernetNoHardware since hardware detection
only happens during begin(). Extract shared Ethernet CLI code into
EthernetCLI.h to prevent future divergence. Also fix time_t type
mismatch in companion radio Ethernet init.

- Boot companion radio without Ethernet on init failure (LoRa-only recovery mode)
- Remove > prompt from ethernet CLI for consistency with serial interface
- Fix variable redeclaration compile error in SerialEthernetInterface when ETHERNET_STATIC_IP is defined
- Fix TCP socket leak when duplicate client detection fires
- Remove dead recv_queue and adv_restart_time members from SerialEthernetInterface
- Fix port numbers in docs (port 23 for repeater/room server CLI, port 5000 for companion radio)
